I honestly started out on a mission to disprove almost every ghost story I had ever heard. It seems almost every town has its own ghost story and I wanted to record and investigate every one I knew of and prove them to be mere legends.
As I started looking into a few places, I became intrigued by the history and how it evolved into the stories told by local thrill seekers. When I visited a few places, I became more intrigued by the phenomenon I photographed. So much so that I kept going back and kept looking into the history and I become obsessed with the small town of Purdy, TN.
Fielding Hurst and his home were of particular interest to me. Because of my photos, my daughter’s middle school history teacher is now investigating Colonel Fielding Hurst and gathering teaching materials to include him in next year’s curriculum.
What I have learned thus far is that in areas where history is rich and plentiful, it is impossible for it not to live on and manifest itself in some shape, form or fashion. For me, this manifestation has been a great appreciation of the past.
I will continue to investigate other “hauntings” and share my findings with what I have found to be a very interested bunch of readers. In closing, I hope you enjoy my photographs and the oddities in them as well as the history.

P.S. I have never had to say this before, but now it must be said. I do not mind anyone saving my photos for their own personal enjoyment but if you would like to post them on your website or use them in a newspaper article, etcetera, please be courteous and give a link back to my website (as my friend from HurstNation.com does). I spend many hours taking them, sorting through them and adding them here for the pleasure of my readers. Giving credit where credit is due is the right thing to do.
