I just wanted to let everyone know that I haven’t disappeared and abandoned this blog. I have been crazy busy and have been unable to get out and go. I am hoping to return to Shiloh again soon and maybe I will be able to get some more interesting pictures near the Bloody Pond.
How do I get in contact with the owner of this house to get his permission to look in the house?
The owner has requested to remain anonymous. However, the house will be open for tours again this Halloween. Until then he does not wish for anyone to be near the house (due to recent vandalism) and anyone caught on the property will be prosecuted. The owner has someone watching the house closely now and people will occasionally be hiding inside the house.
I’m really sorry but it truly has come to this to protect the house. The Halloween tours were intended to satisfy the curious (and offset the cost of repairs) in hopes that vandals would leave it alone but that hasn’t been the case. He can be found mowing occasionally (he has a house right down the road but he hasn’t mowed at Hurst house recently because of the rains) and if you happen to drive by during the day and find him there he may give you a tour and he may not. If he is replacing more windows, he will likely decline your request.
To anyone who has illegally entered the home or intends to attempt to gain entry:
This man wanted to restore the house but vandals have made it impossible. They have broken windows and kicked down doors. I would personally like to say thanks to everyone involved in the vandalism. Because of you, the town of Purdy will likely see it’s oldest home destroyed. Shame on you! This house is a landmark and a testament of the history of the area. Many of us wanted to see this home restored to its former glory. When the owner has to keep replacing windows (he has replaced many windows twice and has now put up more bars) he isn’t going to make any effort to restore it. If it continues to rot down, it will become too expensive to restore and will end up being bulldozed.
Thankfully, greater efforts are now being made to protect this house. If you manage to get in, it’s very unlikely that you will leave. You’ll either go to jail or get hurt. Just because no one lives in the house doesn’t mean you can’t be charged with breaking and entering and/or vandalism. You’ve been warned.
