A HAUNTED Hurst Mansion?
June 9, 2008 by atorturedsoul
I would again like to stress that this is private property and trespassers will be prosecuted. The owner caught four youngsters attempting to enter the house and after leaving for the night someone broke a window and entered the house.
I would like to inform anyone thinking about trespassing that the owner of the property is periodically staying at a cabin not far from the house. He will occasionally be hiding out at Hurst House and apprehending those who attempt to gain entry.
If that isn’t enough to deter you, I have another big announcement from the owner himself. IF vandals will leave the property alone so part of the work needed can be completed, he will operate a Haunted House inside Hurst Mansion during the month of October. Proceeds will be used to complete much needed restoration. More information will be provided on this as the time nears.

What’s the word on the haunted house? Still on?
I had to contact the owner to find out. Hadn’t talked to him in a while. He said he checked on insurance for the haunted house and it would be $1500 for just one week. This would make it a struggle just to recoup expenses so it’s a no go. Such a shame but I suppose it can’t be helped.
Well, crap. I’ll chip in $100.
I wish I had known beforehand that Wild 100.7 from Corinth was going to be doing a live remote in the area this week. I’m betting they might have helped out with the haunted house and certainly could have advertised it well enough to have the expenses covered.
im willing to help restore or help get funds to restore the mansion. I’m sure many in my family would as well
I have not spoken to the owner in some time as time is not something I have much of as of late. I’m certain you can catch him at the house on weekends.
Well, I went to the haunted house. I don’t know if anyone here has contact with the people running it, but they should make a few slight changes. of course, it was just their first week, so I expected a few problems.
- For one, they should at least put a few glow sticks in the “tunnel” and clear it out a little better. One of my group got poked in the eye from a hanging piece of wood and could have been injured or lost his contacts. I, personally, slammed my head into a wall before realizing I was supposed to turn to the left.
- While going through the “tunnel”, my back was right on the roof of it. Someone above kicked into it from above. I’m sure it was part of the show, but because my back was actually touching it, he kicked me right in the back. Which was already somewhat injured the day before. So they might want to either not do that or kick on the edges of it instead of right in the middle.
- There really should be at least one small lamp at the corner of the stairs. The entire group nearly fell down the stairs, despite having been as careful as possible. That could really get someone hurt. Walking up and down it in complete darkness was just an overall pain in the ass.
- At one point, there was an extremely loud air horn that went off RIGHT in my ear. I forgave the other problems, as it wasn’t too big a deal. We got though all of it relatively fine. But it blasted straight into my ear and just made me angry. My ear started ringing after wards for a good while. They should really consider using something not quite as loud next time. That’s gonna’ cause some problems if the wrong person comes along.
Aside from that, they did a great job. I know they said they change things up every night, but that’s just something they should really take notice of. I’m sure they’ll do a great job as they do it more often. But I just felt they need to know about those few problems. Could make all the difference. It really didn’t scare me too much, but I was in one of the kind of groups that doesn’t really scare easy and that has a good idea of what will happen before hand. So I hope they didn’t think we were party poopers or anything. We enjoyed it. We just thought they needed to make a few slight changes to keep people a bit safer. Otherwise, they did a great job and I hope they make enough money to reach their goals.
Oh boy. Sounds like the house is a three-ring circus now. The stairs don’t have rails…unless they put some up. The previous owner led small groups through the house with flashlights. (There isn’t any electricity run to the house…not even a pole there.) Hope the owners bought insurance for the event….or made everyone sign waivers. Someone is bound to get hurt.
I think they did. It was too dark to tell, but I’m fairly certain I remember grabbing some rails on the way up and back down. It was a typical Halloween Haunted House. You’ve seen one, you’ve seen them all, usually. But those were a few choice things they should watch out for before they start it up again this weekend. Everyone pays 10 dollars to go in. So at least they get some money to help restore the house. Assuming they really are saving up for that, of course. They seemed like really nice people, though. Three of the people in our group plan to volunteer to work with them during the shows for a while, so maybe they can help clean the place up.
Not really sure where that “tunnel” was from looking at the actual photos of it. Unless they just got some ducts and put them on the floor for the show.
It’s at least worth a check out to see what they’ve done with the place. But the only time we ever actually saw anything lighted up was when the guide would briefly flash the light for a second or when we’d come across a “spook” or whatever else and strobe lights would come on.
All in all, it was okay, just not as good as it could have been. And it was too dark to see if the house itself was still in decent condition or not. At least compared by what I’ve seen in your photos. Never been during the day. I really should check it out some time.
